Ingleton 1940s Weekend

2017 dates are 1st and 2nd of July so we will kick things off on the Friday night (30th Jun) as we did 2016.  We have picked these dates to de-conflict with other events following requests from re-enactors.

“Ingleton 1940s weekend is intended as a celebration of the music and fashion of a bygone age when mutual support and an “all in it together” mentality were the cornerstones of community.  We reminisce about shortages in food and other supplies, rationing and the grit and courage that galvanised our ancestors against hard times.  In addition we take time to commemorate the sacrifice of those involved in the darker times of the 1940’s culminating in an act of remembrance in recognition of those who made the ultimate sacrifice”.

Always the first weekend in July of each year the Yorkshire Dales village of Ingleton is transformed into a 1940s village in France – initially occupied by German troops the weekend sees work by the Resistance and liberation by the Allied troops performed by professional re-enactors. There are 40s themed stalls and street games as well as music and dancing at a wide variety of social venues including solo artists in pubs and clubs as well as in our village square.  Our centrepiece event being the Saturday night dance held in our Community Centre (ticket only).
In addition we have a number of other attractions including vintage vehicles, static displays (incl replica Spitfire) Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast and a Parachute Display from the Royal Logistic Corps Silver Stars.

There are a number of web pages to view that explain most things about the weekend so please have a look through the site.  If you have any further questions please get in touch via the information on our contact us page.

It is worth noting that the event is planned, organised and delivered on a wholly non-profit volunteer basis and is funded by the local community in the form of fund raising and donation. Admittance to the event is free of charge although there will be the opportunity to make a donation towards next years event should you wish.

In summary why not come along and enjoy this spectacular event.
